IPL stands for intense pulsed light, and is also called photofacial and photorejuvenation. The team of experts at Kamala Aesthetics use this noninvasive laser treatment on nearly any area of your body to make your skin smoother and more evenly toned.
The IPL device applies multiple wavelengths of light to pigment cells in your skin (or blood cells when treating unsightly veins). When these cells absorb light energy, the energy quickly converts to heat and destroys the cells.
The team at Kamala Aesthetics use IPL to treat common skin conditions, such as:
Your aesthetician customizes the settings of the pulsed light device to match the individualized characteristics of your skin imperfections and minimize side effects.
The first step is to schedule a consultation so your Kamala Aesthetics’ practitioner can create a personalized treatment plan that best matches your needs.
Then, when you arrive for IPL treatment, make sure you aren’t wearing makeup, lotions, or other creams. Avoid tanning before your session. Your practitioner applies numbing cream to your skin 30 minutes prior to treatment if you have sensitive skin.
Right before your photofacial, your aesthetician applies cold gel to your skin, and you’re given goggles to protect your eyes from the pulsed light.
During the procedure, you may feel a sensation like a small rubber band snapping against your skin. The treatment is noninvasive, and patients tolerate it well. Your session may last about 30-45 minutes.
After an IPL session, your skin may appear flushed or irritated for several hours or days. Use cold packs to reduce these or other post-IPL side effects. Make sure to protect your skin from the sun, avoid tanning, and steer clear of self tanners and retinoids when your skin is healing.
Your aesthetician may recommend a series of two to three treatments (or more) to maximize results, and IPL sessions usually take place three to four weeks apart.
When you’re ready for a noninvasive way to rejuvenate your skin without taking time off to heal, call Kamala Aesthetics to schedule an IPL appointment or book online today.
