Chemical Peels Q & A

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a noninvasive aesthetic procedure that uses a chemical solution to restore wrinkled, blemished, sun damaged, and unevenly pigmented skin. The peel applies different forms of hydroxy or salicylic acids to the skin to:

  • Improve the texture of sun-damaged skin
  • Brighten the complexion of skin
  • Remove blemishes and sunspots
  • Control acne
  • Minimize pore size
  • Balance skin pigmentation
  • Diminish the appearance of acne scars
  • Smooth out fine lines and wrinkles
  • Soften rough or dry skin
  • Remove precancerous growths

Chemical peels burn off the skin’s damaged outer layers to enhance new skin cell and collagen growth during healing, and produce younger-looking, tighter, smoother skin on your face.

What should I expect during chemical peel treatment?

Avoid wearing makeup when you come in for a chemical peel procedure. An aesthetician at Kamala Aesthetics thoroughly cleans your skin to remove debris and oil and applies a peeling agent to your skin’s surface. You may feel a slight stinging during the procedure. Expect your session to take about 30 minutes.

After a chemical peel and during the healing process, you might notice a minimal amount of:

  • Flaking or scaling
  • Stinging
  • Redness
  • Tingling
  • Dryness
  • Skin irritation
  • Crusting

Minimal redness or tingling that develops during or immediately after your session usually goes away within an hour. Within two to five days after a chemical peel, you may notice slight skin peeling that last for about five days. The outer skin layer eventually sloughs off, revealing the new rejuvenated, healthy-looking skin underneath.

The Kamala Aesthetics team may recommend a series of chemical peels at two-week intervals to maximize your results.

What happens after a chemical peel?

There’s no downtime after a chemical peel, so you can resume normal day-to-day activities right way. After your procedure, use aftercare products as instructed to keep your skin moist and clean. Avoid:

  • Touching or peeling flaking skin
  • Using moisturizers right away
  • Frequent face washing with water

Be sure to protect your new, rejuvenated skin as it heals by using sunscreen and other sun protection methods to avoid sun exposure for about one month after your treatment.

When you’re ready for fresh looking, rejuvenated skin that makes you look and feel years younger, call Kamala Aesthetics to book a chemical peel appointment or schedule online.
